I am pretty sure MeWe is not the right solution to the social web problem too. For Plussers, it may look like the best solution to move to from G+ because MeWe offers very similar feature set and the app feel is very close to the original G+ but doesn’t solve the fundamental problem that it’s a network backed by a company that may or may not go out of business anytime. Just like Google decided to kill the G+ they just may for whatever reason run out of money and choose to close the network too. There’s no guarantee it will not happen and what then? Problem is still the same. The only real solution to this problem is a point-to-point solution like the Scuttlebutt https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/ where you own your data, and no single point of failure is involved such as company running the platform on its servers. Share from Google Drive launched for Google+ posts . This is probably a more significant update for G Suite users, where sharing and discussing documents on posts visible only within the domain could be extremely useful. Users need to remember that Google Drive permissions for the shared document are separate from any access control list (circle or mentions) that govern permission of the post itself, though this is detailed in a warning dialogue prior to sharing. Google+ Update for GSuite: Add users and Google Groups to domain-restricted Google+ Communities We’re adding the ability to directly add users and Google Groups as members of Google+ Communities. When a moderator adds a group, group members are automatically added to the community. Subsequent updates to the group membership are automatically reflected in the community membership. G+ Android app update Hey folks, over the next several days, we'll be enabling a brand new version of the G+ Android app. Though it very closely resembles the current app, this new version is the culmination of a complete rewrite of many core features using Google's latest Android app infrastructure which will allow our Android team to build new features on a modern tech stack. During the rewrite, we were able to build in some subtle updates. For instance, stream rendering and scrolling have been improved, the photo lightbox has been redesigned, comment options slide up from a bottom sheet, and grey-spammed comments are now viewable by post authors. Since this is a rewrite, there are a few known issues that we're working through. For instance, leaving a comment on a post causes a full refresh of the post to include your comment. Take it for a spin if you get the chance, and we hope you don't mind the dust.

iOS updates: community bulk moderation, G+ Today widget There were a couple of new features in the latest iOS app that was updated in the App Store earlier this week. First (screenshot 1), we added the ability for community moderators to bulk select posts for moderation. This is similar to the previous announcement about this feature: plus.google.com/+LeoDeegan/posts/JxwAR8tv21z Second (screenshot 2), we added a G+ widget to the Today View to display the latest posts from your home stream. Some other recent features we've put into the G+ iOS app include: • Community owners and moderators can pin a post to the top of their community • Search for posts in communities • A "Remove Post" option for community owner and moderators • Setting to configure whether GIFs auto-play in stream • Support for iPhone X

Bulk moderation of community posts Just in case you were in the mood for yet another update this week, over the next several days we'll be rolling out a feature for communities that allows moderators to bulk select posts for moderation in the Likely Spam and Held for Review queues. Moderators can initiate the feature by clicking on Select Posts in the upper left of the queue. This will enable a multiple-select checkbox interface with an accompanying Select All option to apply ban/approve/reject moderation actions in bulk.

Delete, report, block Hello folks, a third update this week. By popular demand, we'll be rolling out a feature over the next few days that will allow you to perform a delete, report, and block action on comments on your posts. This is similar to the remove, report, and ban action we launched a while ago for community moderators: https://plus.google.com/+LeoDeegan/posts/3NGFAhREovQ https://plus.google.com/+LeoDeegan/posts/WjcFN66eRgg The launch today, however, is to provide you an equivalent action on your own posts. To invoke this feature, select "Delete, report, and block" from a comment. You can optionally select "Also delete recent comments by this user" if you want to additionally remove recent comments from the user on your posts. Incidentally, this image is for illustrative purposes. I am not actually planning on blocking Greg Wolfe, who is a valuable member of our team (and also the lead for this feature).

Community Insights dashboard Hello folks, over the next several days, we'll be rolling out a new dashboard for community moderators that provides informative metrics for their communities. Moderators will notice a new community "Manage" button (previously "Moderate"). The Insights dashboard appears as the first tab and includes helpful membership and engagement metrics. Advanced search operators Over the next few days, we'll be rolling out advanced search operators to the Google+ search box to assist you in refining your Google+ search queries. For example, I typed from:"Ina Gat" has:photo commenter:me into the search box and rediscovered this nice bokeh shot from Ina Gat. You can search for posts that have particular attachments (like has:poll ), posts where you were mentioned (like mention:me ), posts before or after a date (like before:2016-04-01 ), posts in communities or collections, and more!
