Introducing Hashtags on Facebook

Introducing Hashtags on Facebook

Starting today, hashtags will be clickable on Facebook. Similar to other services like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest, hashtags on Facebook allow you to add context to a post or indicate that it is part of a larger discussion. When you click on a hashtag in Facebook, you'll see a feed of what other people and Pages are saying about that event or topic.

They did it :)

  1. I have to say. The speed with which Facebook is able to copy G+ features is pretty amazing.

  2. Kee Hinckley Let's be honest the hashtag has nothing to do with G+, for social media it began on Twitter.

  3. Nice!

I don't know if I necessarily care much about using hashtags myself, but it's nice that the hashtags I use on G+ will now mean something when they transfer over to Facebook.

In other words: Thanks to Facebook for adding this feature to F+M.

  4. Tim Nolte I'm not talking about the invention of the hashtag. I'm talking about implementing it. This isn't the first time G+ has added a feature which FB added a few weeks later. I'm seriously impressed with their turnaround time for new features.

Although Facebook doesn't seem to be autogenerating them yet. That's quite a bit harder.

  6. Kee Hinckley I'm not talking about the invention of it either. My point, and this is in no defense of #Facebook  , is that it's rather simplistic to say that Facebook has implemented it because Google+ did. The very fact that multiple other Social Networks have already implemented it means that Facebook is finally recognizing the validity of using hashtags. I think really that they recognize that brands, like TV shows, are using hastags for tracking on other Social Media networks and this is costing Facebook  valuable traffic.
